what to expect
Maybe you have been in therapy before, or maybe this is your first time.
Welcome. Even if you have been to therapy before, meeting with different therapists can feel, well, different.
The first few sessions, I like to get your history and a clear picture of what brought you here today. The research says that the most important factor in determining therapeutic success isn’t the therapist’s approach, but actually the relationship that forms. So I want to make sure you feel comfortable (as comfortable as therapy can feel) when we start meeting.
I work primarily from a psychodynamic and relational lens. Put simply, I’ve learned that our early relationships can have a big impact on how we view and move through the world. And honestly, this information can feel scary or overwhelming to most of us. The good news- our perspective can change. I believe that through therapeutic work, we can find a way to navigate our world that feels better for us. We do this in part by having our unconscious become conscious.
I also integrate other therapies depending on the issues you present with or what your goals are. I may incorporate mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), as well as other therapeutic approaches. I always welcome feedback and want to make sure that psychotherapy isn’t a waste of your time, money, and/or resources.
I work with folks at minimum once a week, and may recommend meeting more often depending on your situation.
I offer in- person sessions in Berkeley (near the Downtown Berkeley Bart Station) as well as virtually over a HIPAA compliant platform. When meeting virtually, our sessions are conducted in a completely private space. However, you may spot my dog peeking in or taking a nap in the corner.
